Ethical Leadership

Rodger is a pioneer of ethical and responsible business, having researched and promoted this approach for over 30 years. His view is that ethical business is good business and ethics are good for business. The Ethical Leadership course brings together Rodger's business ethics and responsible and sustainable business research and experience to assist businesses to attract and retain the best employees, increase sales and customer loyalty, strengthen relationships with suppliers, perform better financially for shareholders and enhance corporate citizenship and goodwill within the community.

This course also assists business to meet stakeholder expectations that businesses walk the talk by investing in ethics training. For example, the New Zealand Principles and Guidelines for Corporate Governance state that directors should observe and foster high ethical standards, including provision of employee training and a system to implement and review the entity's code of ethics. Meanwhile, investors such as the New Zealand Superannuation Fund have ethics as part of their investment criteria.

The most recent two-day University of Auckland Business School Ethical Leadership Course rated 6.8 out of 7 for "amount learned overall". Comments under "The Things I liked best about the course" were:

It gives me pleasure to provide a reference for Dr Rodger Spiller of Rodger Spiller and Associates to any client that is anticipating using Rodger in a training or consultancy capacity. I have known Rodger for many years and was fortunate on 13-14 August 2007 to attend Ethical Leadership, which was run through Auckland University. The two-day training program was extremely well organised. Rodger had undertaken an immense amount of preparation for the course as was evident by the quality of the materials he provided. Rodger has an engaging personality, is very receptive to participation from participants, and is in fact most encouraging of the contribution of additional thoughts and ideas. He varies the tempo from group work to presentation to reflective practice with ease and is a consultant that is not only knowledgeable, but skilled in teaching pedagogy.

-Professor Gael McDonald, Dean, Faculty of Business and Law, Deakin University

From my experiences with Rodger Spiller, both as a business peer and as an attendee of one of his courses, I highly recommend Rodger as a capable presenter, trainer and facilitator. Rodger is a business professional, an engaging mentor and articulate speaker – this was exemplified in Rodger’s course on business sustainability and leadership that I attended in 2007. This course was pitched and paced at the right level for the audience, which reflects Rodger's capability in tailoring a structure that meets the needs of the group. Rodger also provided a good balance of information and participation, enabling delegates to feel both challenged and collaborative in their learning. Overall, the session was highly memorable, insightful and useful. I would not hesitate in attending further courses run by Rodger.
